One of the most impactful programs offered at Chabad of Venice is the Jewish Learning Institute (JLI). JLI is the largest Jewish adult education program in the world, with over 300 chapters across six continents, bringing high-level Jewish learning to communities everywhere.
Here in Venice, our JLI classes have become a highlight of the year. Each course draws over 100 adults from across our community who come together with curiosity and open minds to explore timeless Jewish wisdom and how it speaks to modern life.
The courses are designed to be engaging, thought-provoking, and accessible to everyone, regardless of prior knowledge. Through lively discussion, powerful ideas, and practical insights, participants walk away inspired and enriched.
This spring we are excited to launch two brand-new JLI courses that explore themes of universal morality and the roots of freedom.
For All Humankind
Begins Tuesday, April 28 — a four-week course, Tuesdays.
This fascinating new course explores Judaism’s vision for humanity as a whole. While the Torah speaks deeply to the Jewish people, it also contains a powerful universal message about ethics, responsibility, and the role every human being plays in building a moral world.
Through engaging texts and discussion, the course will explore the Seven Noahide Laws, Judaism’s framework for universal morality, and how these timeless principles address contemporary questions about justice, dignity, and the purpose of society.
Participants will discover how Jewish wisdom offers a blueprint for a world built on responsibility, compassion, and shared values.
Foundations of Freedom
Begins Tuesday, May 26 — a four-week course, Tuesdays.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States, this special JLI course explores the profound relationship between Jewish values and the ideals that shaped America.
From the biblical concept of liberty to the influence of the Hebrew Bible on the Founding Fathers, the course examines how Jewish teachings helped inspire many of the principles that define the American experiment.
Through fascinating historical insights and powerful Jewish sources, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of the spiritual foundations of freedom and the enduring partnership between Jewish values and American democracy.
Classes begin at 12:30 PM, with lox and bagels at 12:00 PM. Classes may be attended in person or via Zoom, and for those who cannot attend live, all registered students receive the video recording so no one misses a class.
Join us as we continue discovering the depth, wisdom, and timeless relevance of Jewish learning together — see our JLI courses.
