This past year, thousands of people across South County came together through Chabad of Venice to celebrate Jewish life, learn from our history, and experience the joy and unity of community. From public holiday celebrations to powerful educational programs, these moments were made possible thanks to the partnership and generosity of our supporters.
Lighting up South County — Chanukah
One of the most visible expressions of this impact was our Chanukah celebrations, which illuminated communities across the region.
More than 1,500 people gathered at our public menorah lightings and celebrations in Wellen Park, Venice, and Englewood. Families, children, and neighbors came together to light the menorah, sing Chanukah songs, and celebrate the timeless message of the holiday — that even a small light can push away great darkness.

These gatherings strengthened Jewish pride and connection while bringing the beauty of Jewish tradition into the heart of our broader community.
Remembering the past — Holocaust education
Our community also came together for a powerful moment of remembrance and education.
Over 1,000 students and community members gathered to learn and commemorate the Holocaust alongside an Auschwitz survivor who courageously shared their story. Hearing firsthand testimony ensures that the lessons of the Holocaust continue to inspire the next generation to stand against hatred and antisemitism.
Joy and unity — Purim in Persia
One of the most joyful moments of the year was Purim in Persia, an immersive community celebration that welcomed over 300 community members.
This year’s celebration carried a particularly powerful meaning. As our community gathered to celebrate Purim, the world was watching unfolding tensions involving Iran, the very land where the Purim story originally took place. The ancient story of Purim — where the Jewish people faced threats from Persia yet ultimately experienced salvation — felt strikingly relevant in our time.
Families stepped into a festive Persian setting complete with a royal tent, Persian-inspired cuisine, music, and activities for children and families. The Megillah reading filled the room with laughter and the sound of graggers each time Haman’s name was mentioned.

One of the highlights of the evening came when Rabbi Sholom dressed as Mordechai and rode in on the royal horse, reenacting the famous moment when Mordechai was honored through the streets of Shushan. The crowd erupted in cheers as children and adults alike experienced the Purim story coming to life.
At one point during the evening the music began and people spontaneously started dancing — capturing the true spirit of Purim: joy, unity, and Jewish pride.
Building the future together
Moments like these — the light of Chanukah, the remembrance of Holocaust education, and the joy of Purim — are made possible through the continued partnership of our community.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, and the Snyder Family Foundation for sponsoring and supporting key community programs this year.
We are also deeply grateful to the more than 500 donors who participated in our 2025 annual campaign, whose generosity helps sustain and expand the many programs, classes, holiday celebrations, and community services that Chabad provides throughout the region.
Together, we are strengthening Jewish life, building community, and creating meaningful connections that inspire people of all ages.
And because of your partnership, that impact continues to shine brighter each year.
